The myth of Sisyphus
Alright so this me is paraphrasing a youtube video that I can't seem to remember properly with a lot of creative liberties. I want to talk about our lives and how most of the time it feels like this eternal rat race. I feel like all we do is move on to the next big thing. The sad thing is that we can't really stop ourselves either cause if we do we start felling useless and we start going down this rabbit hole that is the search for meaning. So here's the thing. There will always be a goal. Its kind of like Sisyphus, not that we all take on impossible jobs but in the sense that we never stop. Its always about the next thing. Take my case, as of writing this I am an engineering student and funny enough I actually kind of like it. My goal for now is to make the most out of college years and get a job where I feel content working in. When i get a job there will be a next goal, I don't know it's probably going to be something dumb like buying a house or something related with family or who knows it could be totally cool, maybe I'll be writing a book or making a game or just making art in general.
My point being that this process is never ending, I want to quote a pink Floyd song called breathe
"Run, Rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one"
We just can't really help ourselves and like Sisyphus rolling his boulder we keep on chasing stuff. As my boy Albert Camu said "One must imagine Sisyphus to be happy" but unlike Sisyphus we're absolutely fucking miserable. We tend to get so caught up in the cycle of working towards our future we ignore what's around us. It's always just more work to do. Not always to be frank but personally I feel like I used to be like that a lot. As much as working for our future is important, what's the point if you are blind to the things in front of you.
What's the point if you are blind to all the cool things in this world like friendship, love, art, books, music, games, like fucking everything. Its not like our lives have some grand meaning anyways. We'll all be forgotten one day so why not Live a Little
Thank you for reading.
